Open Hearts

open hearts

This poster hung on our kitchen wall at 22 Lypeatt Court for a whole year. I carefully stored it over the summer and brought it back to Canterbury. It was the living room center piece. It fell from the wall and it was left on the floor behind the sofa. Then one day Oliver destroyed it and put it out in the Garbage. His reason he didn't like it as much as Rob and I. Had it bean taken out of a skip in our fresher week by Benjy.... Yes. Had we seen the film.... No. But to Mark, Benjy, Ben, Kola, Rob & I that was a very important part of out old house.

Even though we had not seen the film we did know that it was a "rare film" with "dramatic heights". It was "deeply moving" and was a "gem" of a film! (I am so glad they write things like this on the poster.)

Over christen I was chatting to Rob like I do and in between insulting each other I was joking around and was saying how I was going to lay on a welcome party for him and his family when he moved in with:

  • afternoon tea

  • cucumber sandwiches, in triangle formation

  • a magician

  • a screening of open hearts

With that I made a quick trip to play and I found to my surprise they did have the film here. I ordered it and it arrived on Wednesday. For the rest of the week we have both been telling people that we are going to be watching one of the greatest films of all time without reviling the title. Tonight we viewed that film!

The film is about (from play)

What happens when fate suddenly snaps its fingers and turns four lives upside down? Open Hearts is about losing control, looking life in the face, and having the courage to go for the love of your life. Cecilie (Sonja Richter) and Joachim (Nikolaj Lie Kass) are young and in love. They are soon to get married and they have their whole lives ahead of them. But, suddenly, things go wrong and everything changes. Marie (Paprika Steen) and Niels (Mads Mikkelsen) are older, happily married and have three children, but their marriage is tested to the limit when unexpectedly the four paths cross and Niels falls passionately in love with Cecilie. One thing is sure: nothing can even be the same again...

As soon as the film came on there was one major problem. It was in Danish. So we would have to read sub titles to understand what was going. To be fair I didn't get into it much and thought it was a bit a disappointment glad more people had not turned up. Its amazing how a film can just grab you. By the end we were all hooked reading the text as it flashed up on the screen. It was a good film. No doubt about it. It had a good story. I will watch it again to get the most out of it. Think it will be a film for one sort of thing as its need my concentration unlike tonight where jokes were made here and there.

If anyone would like to borrow it give me a mail. You can read what Rob thinks here.

The Mark and Alex Show

A week today Mark and Alex took there first steps onto LiveWire1350 radio and I of course listened to support my friend Mark. One of the great things about LiveWire is that you can text into the studio for free from the comfort of your own PC. Which I did of course do :-)

Due to this I got a special mention. In fact I got allot of mentions :-) I will hopefully be tuning in again tomorrow. I really did enjoy the show and is worth a listen to so between the hours of 14:00 and 16:00 listen to LiveWire1350.

Here are some of the pictures I captured from the web cam.
